Guatemala
This photo shoot took place in Antigua, Guatemala during Holy Week, April, 2010 with other photographers from around the world. We were there to study with a photographer from National Geographic. They provided press passes for us so we could walk among the processions and enter the churches during the ceremonies. We had full access to all of the festivities and certain balconies for advantageous opportunities to photograph the magnificent people and the emotions they exhibited during the reenactment of Christ's journey to being placed upon the cross.
We also attended a Shaman's ceremony with her children in an enclosed courtyard.
Walking around Antigua during early morning hours and before the processions started, many Guatemalans were busy demonstrating their artist talent designing street carpets with colored sand, seeds and flowers. Everything about this week gave new meaning to religiosity and spiritual presence.
